In this second part of a three-part series, Ted Thayer, Phoenix Contact’s principal product marketing specialist for control, and Eric Kozikowski, MxD’s lead systems integration engineer, discuss how to leverage technology to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime and improve decision making in industrial settings.
To give Power & Motion’s audience some real-world examples of digital programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Thayer spoke about the integration of the CodeAssist runtime engine on web panels to combine visual and control functionalities in one product, eliminating the need for separate PLCs.

Kozikowski talked about MxD’s demonstration factory floor that includes advanced technologies such as digital PLCs, central control systems and artificial intelligence (AI) for predictive maintenance to anticipate and prevent issues before they occur.
They also discussed the concept of creating a digital twin of the plant floor to simulate changes and optimize layouts as well as a simulation of brownfield environments, such as oil refineries, using advanced control systems and mobile platforms for mobile operation.
