Dan Funcannon has been appointed vice president and general manager of Komatsu’s mining division

Heavy equipment manufacturer, Komatsu America Corp. recently appointed Dan Funcannon as vice president and general manager of the company’s mining division. With extensive experience in the company's research and development group, Funcannon leaves his current position as director of engineering, and highlights his vision to present more cutting-edge technologies to Komatsu customers.

"Komatsu will press forward with leading technologies like autonomous trucks and innovative mine optimization tools that can help our customers be more efficient now and prepare them for the future,” he promises. “I’m looking forward to showing our customers how a trusted partner like Komatsu can add value with services and solutions that help their operations succeed."

Komatsu's autonomous haulage system (AHS) integrates with the dozers, loaders, and shovels that are also part of the autonomous system.

In his new role, Funcannon will be responsible for the sales and support of Komatsu mining products in North America, as well as Komatsu’s 200-ton and larger mining trucks globally. Having joined Komatsu in 1994 as a design engineer, he held successive roles within the research and development organization before moving on to director of engineering for large mining trucks.

Funcannon has overseen R&D for new products including AC drive-haul trucks, autonomous technology in large mining trucks, and mining-truck innovations that improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity.
