InterOcean Advisors LLC is an investment bank that provides merger, acquisition, and capital-raising advisory services to manufacturing companies. Periodically they publish marketing and financial reports that I think would be of interest to people involve in the industry the reports are written about.

InterOcean's latest industry report focuses on the historical performance, current challenges, and near-term outlook of the global packaging industry. They report that although the industry has enjoyed historical value creation above that of most market indices, the outlook is becoming more  challenging given the slow growth of the U.S. and many other developed economies.

Many industry participants are becoming squeezed between large raw material suppliers and an increasingly consolidated  base. The pursuit of scale is becoming a necessity to counteract this supply-chain pressure. In addition many sectors in packaging are either mature or remain highly fragmented. These factors have led to a market that is as active as it has ever been for the industry and is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
