The new Hose Whip Restraint system from Parker Hannifin’s Hose Products Div. provides greater safety for operators working around high-pressure hydraulic hose. In the event of an assembly failure, Parker’s Hose Whip Restraint can prevent harm to machine operators and damage to equipment that might otherwise occur by preventing the “whip” of a pressurized hose.
The damage caused by a violently whipping hose, especially one operating under high pressure, can have severe financial and legal ramifications for a company. The Hose Whip Restraint addresses this concern by limiting the whip or “travel” of the pressurized hose after it breaks free from its hose fitting. A strong steel cord keeps the hose fastened to the fitting after breakage has occurred. By curtailing the hose whip, the system saves users from potentially disastrous consequences including employee injury and equipment damage that can also result in production downtime and lost revenue.
Designed specifically as a safety restraining system for high-pressure hoses, the Hose Whip Restraint is comprised of two parts — the hose collar and the hose assembly. The hose collar is selected based on the outside diameter of the hose, while the cable assembly is selected based on the type of hose connection. Two types of cable assemblies are available for the Hose Whip Restraint system — one for flange-type connections and the other for port adapters.
The Hose Whip Restraint was not designed to replace the proper hose crimping procedures outlined in Parker Hose Products Division Catalog 4400. Operators should continue to follow these procedures when using the Hose Whip Restraint. Exceeding the maximum operating pressure of the hose jeopardizes the proper operation of the system.
