Digital Displacement Pump Enables Efficiency Gains

March 13, 2023
The Danfoss Digital Displacement pump is a key part of its Dextreme system for excavators which enables improvements in productivity and efficiency.

Danfoss Power Solutions’ Digital Displacement pump uses digital control to individually activate each piston to create flow on demand in hydraulic machinery. This also enables faster and more precise control responses compared to a traditional axial piston pumps.

“We have much faster and more precise control response, thereby optimizing the efficiency of our hydraulic circuit,” said Leif Bruhn, head of Digital Displacement at Danfoss Power Solutions.

The Digital Displacement pump is a key part of Danfoss’ Dextreme system for excavators, which helps to achieve energy savings and thus reduced fuel consumption for machine owners. In this system, the Digital Displacement pump and digital pump controller are used in place of a standard hydraulic pump, which Bruhn said enables up to 15% fuel savings and an increase in productivity.

Power & Motion spoke with Bruhn about the Dextreme system, as well as where Danfoss is at currently with its Digital Displacement pump development efforts.

Danfoss is exhibiting the Dextreme system at IFPE 2023. Visit our IFPE channel to learn more about this and other technologies on display at one of the year's largest events for the fluid power, motion control and power transmission industries.
