Hydraulic systems for mobile applications such as construction and agricultural equipment are evolving to be smarter and more efficient. There are also new control methods being employed to enhance machine performance as well as improve the operator experience.
With these technological developments also comes new requirements from mobile equipment manufacturers. Matt Kaldor, Director of Engineering, Global Hydraulic Systems at Doosan Bobcat North America, said hydraulic systems need to be reliable and efficient to help ensure end-use customers can get their work done. "Any ineffiency in the system takes away from their ability to get work done," he said.
Andrea Vacca, Maha Fluid Power Faculty Chair, Maha Fluid Power Research Center at Purdue University, said the digitalization of systems is increasing as well which will enable more dialed in communication with control units. This will allow entry into the world of big data, helping to increase efficiency while decreasing the cost of ownership for machine owners.
In this panel discussion with Power & Motion, Kaldor and Vacca offer their insights into how they are seeing hydraulic systems for mobile applications evolving and the technologies needed to meet OEM and end-use customer requirements.
