This Week in Power & Motion: Danfoss Exhibiting Technology for Construction Equipment at bauma 2022
There is much going on in the world of fluid power and motion control, from technology introductions and industry advancements to new trends and industry leaders. Each week the Power & Motion team collects some of the latest industry news to help keep our readers up to date on what's happening in the industries in which they work.
Schroeder Industries Launches GYR Node
Schroeder Industries' new GYR Node provide a visual/electronic form for monitoring fluid conditions in hydraulic systems. The nodes use the industry's universal color scheme of green, yellow and red which allows for easy identification of the system's condition.
The node can be connected to a condition sensor interface or a customer's data control system. It enables data to be collected through an included web interface which is accessible via Wi-Fi enabled devices. With the new GYR Node, predictive or preventative maintenance plans can be implemented said Schroeder in its press release announcing the launch of the node.
An additional feature includes the ability to customer sensor data parameters over a secure network.
Bosch Rexroth Building New Plant in Mexico
Bosch Rexroth has announced it will build a new manufacturing plant in Queretaro, Mexico, helping further expand its capacity in North America. The new facility will manufacture components for mobile equipment applications as well as factory automation.
It is expected the facility will be operational by summer 2023; additional space is available for future growth at the new plant.
The company has chosen to build the new manufacturing plant to help strengthen local production for customers in North America. This will allow the company to more efficiently deliver products to customers in the region.
Encompassing 42,000 sq. m, the new facility will employ over 900 people by the time it is completely finished which is expected in 2027. It will allow the company to serve the growing mobile equipment industry as well as increase its market share for factory automation solutions in North America.
"We see great potential in the North American market for mobile applications such as agricultural or construction machinery and we produce the corresponding components, such as hydraulic pumps. As part of our 'local for local' approach, we will further enhance our existing mobile hydraulics site in Fountain Inn, SC. We will intensify the development work for the electrification of mobile machinery and the associated software activities. Fountain Inn will become an even stronger and more customer-centric hub for our mobile hydraulics business in North America. The new plant in Queretaro will create additional production capacities," said Greg Gumbs, CEO of Bosch Rexroth North America, in the company's press release announcing the building of the new plant.
"With this setup, we will also improve our competitiveness by reducing the need for transatlantic transports. We are becoming more flexible in handling customer inquiries, expanding our portfolio in the areas of prototype construction, customizing and service, and will be able to build a more robust regional supply chain," added Gumbs.
Volvo CE Partners with Toy Manufacturer to Inspire Young Engineers
Heavy machinery OEM Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has formed a partnership with toy company BRIO Builder to create a range of construction toys. The wooden toys allow young children to build a wheel loader, hauler and an excavator which resemble the real-world machines.
The goal is to help inspire future generations to enter the field of engineering. While its first partnership with BRIO, Volvo CE has partnered with LEGO and other companies in the past to achieve this same goal of inspiring the future engineering workforce through toys.
"We are always looking for ways to encourage and boost engineering talent in children and with these BRIO construction kits we’re providing a fun way to explore the world of work, practice hand-eye coordination and develop a love of design and building. With this initiative, we’re helping our youngest demographic to explore the fascinating world of construction through play," said Arvid Rinaldo, Brand Partnership at Volvo CE, in the company's press release announcing the partnership.
In addition to helping teach children how to build the machines, the toys feature realistic movements like the real-life versions such as dumping, lifting and hauling.
Danfoss Exhibiting Technology for Improved Machine Efficiency at bauma 2022
Danfoss Power Solutions plans to show a range of products at bauma 2022, one of the largest trade shows for the construction and mining industries, with a focus on electrification, autonomy, digitalization and connectivity.
The company intends to show how its products can be used in various construction equipment applications such as excavators, telehandlers, wheel loaders and more. Hydraulic, electric and control system capabilities will be on display for use in traditional machines as well as hybrid and full-electric versions. For the latter, the Danfoss Editron division will show its range of products for machine electrification as well as a proof of concept wheel loader the company recently developed (pictured above).
Additional technologies on display include Danfoss' Digital Displacement pump, its PLUS+1 Autonomy software to aid OEMs with the development of autonomous machines, as well as digital hydraulic components, sensors and more. An area will also be dedicated to the company's fluid conveyance solutions, demonstrating its range of hose, tubing and other hydraulic system componentry.

Helios Technologies Closes Daman Products Acquisition
Helios Technologies Inc. has completed its previously announced acquisition of Daman Products. The acquisition will help further enhance Helios Technologies' hydraulics portfolio.
"We are making excellent progress with our augmented strategy. The addition of Daman to the Helios family demonstrates our ability to expand our technologies and markets through another high-quality flywheel acquisition. Daman is a very strong standalone business with a healthy margin profile," said Josef Matosevic, Helios’ President and Chief Executive Officer, in the company's press release announcing the closing of the acquisition. "Within the Helios Business System, we expect to be able leverage Daman from a very successful small business to closer to a hundred-million-dollar business over the next 5 years. As we fold them into our global manufacturing and operating strategy this provides another avenue to produce integrated package offerings with other Helios brands over time."
Emerson Awards Engineering Scholarship
Emerson has awarded its 2022 ASCO Engineering Scholarship to Grant Cignarella, a Master of Science degree candidate studying mechanical engineering at Villanova University. He will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the company which will also provide a $1,000 grant to the school's engineering department.
Emerson's ASCO Engineering Scholarship Program recognizes U.S. college and university students studying engineering, instrumentation, systems, and automation. It is awarded to those who demonstrate academic excellence, service to others and leadership potential.
"We must nurture new generations to succeed with their creative ideas, imaginative solutions, and ambitious goals," said Jenny Lenhard, president, Americas and industrial automation for fluid and motion control at Emerson, in the company's press release announcing the scholarship winner. "Our commitment to continuous innovation and the future includes ongoing and wide-ranging investments in a program of STEM initiatives, including ASCO Engineering Scholarships, that stretch around the world."
