Festo ADN-S Pneumatic Cylinders Perform Small Movements in Tight Quarters
Festo has added the ADN-S ultra-compact, space-optimized product to its line of pneumatic cylinders. The company shrank the housing length of its ISO standard ADN double-acting cylinder to be used in space-critical applications.
Key features of the ADN-S include:
- short and slim to fit small spaces
- lightweight design
- piston rod with internal or external thread
- two mounting positions
- magnetic piston for position sensing.
Pneumatic Cylinders Suitable for Micro Movements
The ADN-S pneumatic cylinders are suited for test situations, simulation setups or test procedures, such as pressing buttons on devices or in switch-on and switch-off operations, which typically have small loads.
According to Festo, the lightweight and scaled-down housing is reliable and durable in operation. Because they are smaller than other compact double-acting cylinders, they can be used for tasks such as testing smartphone functions.
Piston diameters are available in 6, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 and 63 mm and in standard strokes from 5-50 mm. Its single-piece production is designed to offer better running characteristics, and its ability for mounting from two sides means more attachment options.

For lithium-ion battery manufacturing, there is an ADN-S variant that only contains trace amounts of copper, zinc and nickel — a requirement for components in battery applications.
Festo developed the AND-S pneumatic cylinders to help meet market demand for small drive components. While compact in size, the cylinders provide the same reliability, consistency and durability as the larger versions on which they are based.
Readily Available Cylinders for Automation and Other Applications
The ADN-S is part of Festo’s Core Range of products that have been selected to be readily available for shipping throughout North America. It is also part of Festo’s Stars in Automation, which includes more than 2,200 pneumatic and electric automation products available worldwide.
The core products from the company’s portfolio are being developed to be more sustainable, with savings in terms of weight, volume and energy as well as space and materials required. Machine and system builders can also realize nearly 80% of applications quickly and affordably, according to Festo.
