New Schaeffler FAG Split Cylindrical Roller Bearings Ease Installation and Repair

Schaeffler has introduced the new FAG Split Cylindrical Roller Bearing Housed Assembly, expanding its line of split roller bearing products. The new bearing can easily be mounted and dismounted on a shaft, and includes many of the features of solid cylindrical roller bearings.

Ease of mounting is possible because the new FAG Split Cylindrical Roller Bearings are engineered and manufactured in halves. This eliminates the need to disturb other machine parts when installing or repairing the bearing. The complex procedures common with replacing traditional non-split roller bearings, such as removing gears or cutting the old bearing, are eliminated which reduces downtime for customers.

Schaeffler notes in its press release announcing the launch of the new bearings they are interchangeable with many conventional (non-split) roller bearings as well as most competitors' split designs.

The housings of the FAG Split Cylindrical Roller Bearings are made from powder coated high-strength 65-45-12 ductile iron. A steel option is available upon request. Per Schaeffler's press release, the bearing housing assembly consists of:

The housing unit, which holds and supports the cartridge and bearing assembly.
The cartridge, which contains the bearing assembly and seals.
High-performance, triple labyrinth seals that keep grease in and contaminants out.
The bearing assembly, which contains the inner race, clamp collars that hold the inner race halves, roller cage with rollers, outer race.

Additional features of the bearing include:

cartridge and housing are self-aligning, externally accommodating up to ±3 degrees of misalignment
bearing assembly features rolling elements as well as inner and outer races made from through-hardened steel for excellent load bearing strength and wear characteristics as well as ability to withstand impact-load conditions
available in inch (1-7/16 to 16 in.) and metric (40-300 mm) sizes; larger sizes (up to 32 in.) and special designs can be accommodated
fixed and floating versions available
