The Vibrochecker Pro app from ACE Controls, lets you use your iPhone (shown here with an optional third-party accelerometer and USB cable) to measure and record machine vibration.
Downloadable apps have made smartphones and tablets more versatile, primarily through advanced data management. But more and more apps tap into some of the more physical capabilities of smartphones. Such is the case with the VibroChecker Pro native iOS app, which turns iPhones and iPads into professional vibration and impact-measuring devices. Offered by ACE Controls, Farmington Hills, Mich., VibroChecker Pro provides users with a high-performance, lightweight alternative to more costly dedicated instruments.
ACE’s original VibroChecker app uses the acceleration sensors, gyroscopes, and microphones integrated in the iPhone and iPad to measure vibration frequencies ranging up to 50 Hz on machines and components. The new Pro version of the app increases that range up to 8,000 Hz. The user simply has to connect an external USB sensor (available from a third party) to the iOS device via the lightning port and an adaptor.
